The film RUSSIAN CONSUL is based on the bestseller of the same name by Vuk Drašković, which was published in dozens of countries worldwide. Vuk Drašković is a famous Serbian writer, at one time the leader of the famous opposition party, one of the main opponents of Slobodan Milošević.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY

MIROSLAV LEKIĆ director

Miroslav Lekić was born on November 1, 1954 in Belgrade, then FNRJ, today’s Serbia. He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade – department of film and TV directing in the class of Radomir Baja Šaranović.

He made his film debut in 1983 with the film “Stairway to Heaven”. In 1987, he directed the film It “It Happened on this very day”. In 1993, after 3 years of waiting in post-production, the film “Better than escape” was shown, with which he won numerous awards (Golden Mimosa for direction, awards for tone, editing, music, screenplay and for the best male role at the festival in Herceg Novi).

In 1998, the film “Return of Thieves” premiered. In 1999, the premiere of the film “The Knife” was shown, which was seen in cinemas by close to 650,000 viewers. This film is also on the list of the best 100 Serbian films in the period 1911 – 1999.

After 10 years of waiting and preparation for the realization and lack of funds, the film “Labyrinth” premiered in 2002, which also had great viewership and popularity and was the Yugoslav candidate for the Oscar, for the best film outside the English-speaking area for the year 2002.

Miroslav also directed several episodes of popular series during the 90s: Upstairs and Open Doors, however since 2007, he has been constantly engaged in directing series that had high ratings on national and cable channels such as: Theater in the House, Ulica lipa, Sva ta ravnica, Jagodići, Evropa bre, Otvorena vrata 2, Ubice moga oča, Senke nad Balkan, Marked in the Racket, Civil Servant, Schwindlers …

He is a full professor of film directing at the FEFA Faculty – Department of Creative Industry and President of the Board of Directors of the Film Center of Serbia.

Miroslav Lekić: “With my work, I try to process the most diverse segments of life and the environment that surrounds me in different genre forms. The world around us is a colorful mosaic in which nothing is black and white, only comical or only sad. That diversity has always attracted me, and I constantly tried to tell stories that show that reality through different forms”.

He lives and works in Belgrade.
